I need to post about this, but I've totally uncluttered my office at work and my clothes closet.  Both were desperately in need of some serious de-cluttering, and the experience has been great.  It's a bit empowering and liberating to jettison the junk, and I'm happy to report that  I haven't regressed one bit in either case.  I'll post about this in early January.  kc

I've been really trying to de-clutter for the last two years or so.  I've given away loads of clothes, shoes, bags, but yet my place is still cluttered with… stuff.

How did you manage to de-clutter successfully?  As soon as I get somewhere, I turn around and everything's a mess again.

Berg,

I'll have to complete the post I'm working on, but here's the really short answer:

In both cases, I took a brutal  approach to jettisoning* stuff; with my office at work, equally important was a frank evaluation of my filing system and a housecleaning there as well.  Now my desk is uncluttered during the day, and empty when I leave at night.  My clothes closet is now neat and tidy.

And… sadly enough, I didn't take "Before" pictures in either case.  But I can write about the process and what worked.

*By jettison, I mean:  give away, donate to Goodwill, or simply throw out.  One tiny example:  I must have had 50 tee shirts (running, Harley, general) stacked on a shelf in my closet.  Great – only problem, I hardly ever wear tee shirts!  I how have less than 10.  Frankly, I'd just gotten sloppy.

Here's a tip:  hire a contractor to remodel your basement.  When he tells you that all of the junk you've got laying around must fit into one small corner… instant motivation.  I have to admit, throwing away the K-tel compilation records was painful.

Hysterical!  Did the lava lamp go as well?
