Our trip has provided me with a lot of ideas for posts, and I’ll be following up on them over the next few weeks.  In the meantime, and to whet your appetite a bit, here are a few images from Rome, Sorrento, and Positano:

Well, technically, this (above) was taken on the way from Heathrow to Rome’s Fiumicino airport…  somewhere over the Alps.  Below, from St. Peter’s Basilica:

I suppose there’s nothing particularly noteworthy about this image, taken at the Cafè Latino in Sorrento, except for the fact that – as is the case throughout the area – there are lemon and orange trees everywhere.  We had lunch here one day; in our experience it was practically impossible to get a bad meal anywere…

You can click on any of these images for a close-up, by the way.  All were taken with a Canon S90. Next, a “floor level” shot, if you will, taken at The Coliseum, revealing the service corridors and passageways which were beneath the (wooden) floor:

Below, a shot of Positano from the water:

We had a fabulous lunch in the small village of Nerano one afternoon; I shot this as we were walking in on the dock.  Check out the color of the water!

This was taken a few steps from the statue of St. Anthony in Sorrento; it seemed that no matter where you looked, there’d be something picturesque…

Finally, a shot of Sorrento shot from the harbor as we left on a ferry for Naples, the first leg on our journey home.  We hated to leave!

As I alluded to earlier, the trip served as a catalyst for several post ideas; in another few days we’ll start with a review of what I packed, and a critique on how I did.  There were a couple of things I wish I’d packed, a couple that I packed that were never touched, and at least 4 things that I could not imagine traveling without.  Back in a few days…

  1. I visited 50+ cities in 20+ countries on my trek through Europe last year, and the most beautiful sight I saw was the Amalfi coast.

Those pictures are incredible. I was already planning on making the Canon S90 my next camera, and this only further convinces me to do so.

  3. Look, what I really want to say is this:

Forget the geek hacks for a week, and just share pictures and impressions with us – I wouldn’t mind some arm-chair travel for a while!
