The Canon PowerShot D10 has been on my wish list for a while. My Nikon D80 is great for the images I take for the blog, and I will bring it on our trip to Italy next spring, but since my old Sony Cybershot died, I’ve been without a point and shoot.
What’s unique about the PowerShot D10? It’s a 12.1 megapixel camera that
combines all the usual Canon quality and features in a package that’s shockproof, freezeproof, and watertight to 33 meters!
User reviews are positive (4.5 stars out of 5 at Canon’s website; 4.5 out of 5 at Amazon). The only complaints relate to low light performance and the fact that it’s thicker (particularly on the lens end) than most point and shoots. The D10 typically sells for ~$270.
How about you? Do you have a point and shoot camera that you love or would recommend? If yes, please share your experiences by commenting!
The Fine Print: I have no connection to Canon

I just bought the Canon S90 and love it. It is small, allows the photographer great control, has a fast f 2.0 lens at its widest and shoots RAW if you want. Not waterproof or shock proof. I would post a link to some of my images but I don’t know how :)

David,
I looked at a few images in your Photostream, and they are spectacular! Thanks – seems like you can’t go wrong with Canon.

Thank you for the kind words, Kevin. When it comes to p&s digital camera, Canon in my opinion is the clear leader. For SLRs Canon and Nikon are close, again in my opinion.

I have 2 favorites. My previous favorite and still a strong recommendation is the Canon G9, now the G10. However, I am now a convert to the Lumix LX3. Both the Canon and Lumix do raw and good video. The G9 goes down to 35mm equiv, the G10 to 28mm and the LX3 to 24mm (the Lumix can also shoot in 16:9 format). The Canon outshines the Lumix in the long range but that’s not a big deal for me. The Lumix is more pocketable than the Canon. Anyway, the 3 are marvelous highly adaptable cameras with excellent lenses.

Miguel, Thanks for the comment… much to think about. Apparently the G11 has superseded the G10. Same price range, of course.

Canon S90 is the one I am lusting after. About $399 but supposedly very little shutter lag and very good low light performance. You want those pictures of your wife on the piazza at sunset to look perfect by natural light, right?
