Yesterday I received an email from those merry pranksters at US Airways informing me that they’d deleted 81,239 miles in my frequent flyer account. But, great news, I can reinstate them! So I logged into my account and navigated to this:

I have no particular need to give US Airways $300, so I’ll pass. But what annoys me about this experience is that they don’t proactively warn you that they’re about to delete miles (that approach must not generate enough revenue)… only after the fact.
I’ve moved away from US Airways (hence the inactivity that lead to my miles being “forfeited”) so it’s not a big deal for me, but it is one more reason I’ll not give business to this airline.
Has this happened to you?

Last year I faced a situation were I could not use my frequent flyer miles from an airline when I tried to use them. Since I did not seem to be able to take advantage of the air miles I donated all my miles to the Fisher House Foundation. The Fischer House Foundaton provides free airline tickets to military men and women who are undergoing treatment at a military or VA medical center incident to their service in Iraq or Afghanistan, and their families. I feel better that my donated air miles were put to a good use and certainly encourage other people to do the same. The Fischer House Hero Miles link is: fisherhouse.org/programs/heroMiles

Matt Cutts reported the same problem with US Airways miles plus a different one (where, when he had the miles, he couldn’t redeem them for stuff he should have been able them for):
