This arrived Thursday afternoon:

ooma packaging

ooma.  Set-up took about 15 minutes.  My wife called her mom in NY, and the signal was strong and clear.  While they were talking I launched a YouTube video on our desktop PC, with no adverse affects on sound quality/clarity.

Thus far, this thing rocks.  I’ll live with it for a week or two and then do a more thorough post.   Price from Amazon was $233 (including $3.99 overnight delivery via Amazon Prime).  Unlimited local and long distance calls.  No phone bill.  No 911 service if the power goes out, but we have no young kids at home, and have cell phones.

For the record, I haven’t yet canceled our landline service – I’ll wait 2-3 days, and if we’re still happy, it’s gone.

My initial reaction:  Wow!

  1. That was fast.

Speaking of, I got a mailer from Charter last night for 12 month promo of cable/phone and high speed internet for $70. Very tempting, but we’re still under contract with DirecTV until January.
