Using data from the F.A.A. and Flight View, artist Aaron Koblin visualized air traffic over the United States during a 24 hour period.  The result is both beautiful and fascinating:

If you click on the image above you’ll see a close-up view; on Aaron’s website, clicking on Altitude, Model or Make enables you to vary the image according to those factors, and you can zoom in to view the activity in your (or other) areas.

  1. I bought a print of this from Koblin a year or so ago for a Christmas present. It’s the most interesting in animated form, but I love the print.
