If you’ve ever returned from the beach with soggy currency or worse yet, without your keys, you may want to consider the Aquapac Waterproof Keymaster.
Large enough to carry cash, a credit card and a key or two, the Keymaster is totally waterproof and sports a removable security cord that permits you to wear it around your neck or waist. And should you drop it in the water, it floats!
$16; find it at PackingLight by clicking here

Especially useful if your car key incorporates a remote, and you want to make sure it stays dry. REI is another source for water proof zip bags.
BTW, another key solution is to make a non-chipped key for only a few dollars, which will only operate your car door (without a chip it won’t keep the engine running), then hiding your real key in the vehicle.
