Here’s a description of just two of the unique beans Old Bisbee recently brought into their inventory:
Indonesian Sulawesi Toraja Organic
Certified Organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance
Received 10/06/2008
This week we received our first ever delivery of certified FT Organic/Rainforest Alliance Sulawesi Toraja. We held our breath praying the coffee would arrive like the dreamy offering sample that seduced us a couple of years ago and indeed it did. Sadly, I can buy only a couple of bags of this amazing bean and it will be sold out quickly.
Sulawesi rivals the best Sumatran coffees, with deep-toned flavors and maple-syrupy body that results in a stunning, clearer taste profile. Classic Sumatran earthiness is there, but at lower levels, allowing a hint of chestnuttiness to come through. There’s a mossy, musky aspect here, wet earth, humus, a walk in the woods. The aromas of this coffee conjure up images of a lush forest floor – moss, crushed leaves, and wild mushrooms – offset with a sweet butterscotch finish and almost chewy body.
Nicaragua Organic Nueva Esperanza
Certified Organic
Received 10/06/2008
Our organic coffee Café de Nicaragua is harvested and processed by the Cooperative Nueva Esperanza (New Hope) in Condega, Esteli region of Northern Nicaragua. A neglected and forgotten coffee farm was purchased for the Finca Esperanza Verde in 1997, through the dedication and support of the Sister Communities of San Ramon in Nicaragua.
This magnificent organization restored the farm buildings and began to cultivate the once lost coffee plantations into fertile organic farming land. Over the years, the small arabica coffee plantation has grown to be a respected twenty-eight acre coffee producer and was ranked amongst the top ten coffees during the 2007 Nicaragua Cup of Excellence Competition. Finca Esperanza Verde has become a showcase of world leading organic coffee production, while preserving the environment and raising awareness of global issues in regards to nature, wildlife and eco-friendly, organic farming.
Drinking a great Nicaraguan coffee is like eating salt water taffy on the Cony Island boardwalk – This is what Central American coffee is all about – a sweet clean cup with bright nutty highlights, full of flavor. There’s more punch to this Nic than you would expect, however the finish is amazingly clean for such a strong, forward coffee.
