Antistotle,

Thanks for a well thought out & written comment!

It seems every 4 years I'm faced with a dilemma: a choice between two alternatives, neither of which is very attractive. Sigh.

Forgive my side trip into Palinland - the clip was just too mind boggling...

Qualified compared to whom?

Compared to Biden? Absolutely. That man has spent his entire adult life in Congress.

The VPs main job is to be ready to take over the Presidency, so you're really asking is Palin qualified to be President.

The answer is absolutely not.

The problem is that McCain is not qualified either.

Nor is Obama. Nor is Biden. Nor Hilliary Clinton.

Hell, Politics aside H. Clinton is probably the most qualified as she's actually spent 8 years in the White House.

Congressman are lousy executives because they are used to being able to take credit for good things, but diffuse the blame for bad. They also tend to look *for* compromise and prefer running off at the mouth to actually acting. Executives need to, well, execute. They need to act, and to accept the responsibility for their actions good or bad. They can reach across the aisle for compromise, but they also need to be able to NOT do that.

And yes, I'm painting McCain with this brush as well.

McCain may be marginally more qualified than Palin in some areas (he's got more experience in international relations for example), but she's held elected executive offices for almost 10 years (Mayor twice IIRC, I'm assuming 4 year terms). She's gone to the mat with multinational oil companies and won, she's negotiated with Canadian officials over oil and gas pipelines (I don't remember whether these were government officials or peeps from Canadian oil companies).

Yeah, she sounds like an idiot on economic issues, but that's at least partially because she hasn't been in the national limelight long enough to learn how not to sound like an idiot. This is how McCain, Obama and Biden get along.

It's probably also partially that it's her job to back McCain's game and *he* is an idiot on the economy. If you don't really believe what you're being asked to support you *can't* talk about it convincingly.

Also given the way the media is after her (and in the tank for The Obama http://www.pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/archives2/025096.php ) I'm not 100 percent sure that video is authentic. But then I've *done* video editing and know what an artist can achieve.

As dumb and McCain is, Obama's even worse--his rhetoric is that of a class warfare socialist, and *every* significant figure in his life from Ayers to Wright are communists or socialists.

And that is *truly* stupid economics.

Hell, several of O's close economic advisers are the people who helped create the sub-prime "crisis" to begin with.

I bookmarked this blog a couple weeks ago because it seemed to offer legitimate useful information. Here's hoping you stick with what you're best at.
