Our area was hit by 4-6 tornadoes last Thursday evening. The largest was estimated at about 100 yards wide, and the storm was characterized as an F1 – F2 (winds up to 135mph.)
As the storm approached we began seeing some unusual cloud formations and the sky turned a peculiar bluish-green color:

It became progressively darker and the wind really begin to howl:

I had to lighten the photo below quite a bit – at this point (at ~5:45PM, when it is normally quite bright out) it was as dark as the middle of the night. The bush on the right is about 9 feet tall and was really getting blown over at quite an angle:

Within 5-10 minutes (it seemed much longer!) it was past us and the sky brightened:

A few pictures of some of the damage around town. Fortunately, no one was hurt!

Power lines and trees were down everywhere:

Local convention center – destroyed:

A corporate jet, with its hangar blown away and partly on top of it:

Through it all, nice to see people have retained their sense of humor:

Here’s what’s left of the screen:

We personally were very fortunate. One of the twisters touched down about 10 blocks from our home, leveling one structure and tossing a couple of cars about. We had no damage whatsoever.
There we no serious injuries or fatalities. Some of the major manufacturers in town are still without power. All in all, the town could have suffered much more devastation – we were very lucky!

Where were these pictures taken? We drove thru Nebraska yesterday, Niobrara to Wymore. We went from one Tornado warning to another. We spent 20 minutes in the restroom of the Marysville KS city park while the sirens were going off.
